Work Rehabilitation

Work Rehabilitation (WR) is an individualized program that uses PT and OT to help injured workers meet the demands of a specific job using progressive exercise, work simulation tasks, and education.

Tailored treatments

As a Labor & Industries approved clinic, we provide both work conditioning and work hardening services.

Work conditioning is a less intensive type of a WR program. It is a structured, goal-oriented rehabilitation program that focuses on improving a person’s physical capacity and endurance to help them safely return to work.

Work conditioning consists of physical therapy and occupational therapy and is intended for workers with lighter job demands. The program ranges from 2-4 hours per day, 3-5 days per week.

A work hardening program is a more intensive type of WR program. It consists of physical therapy and occupational therapy to get a worker back to heavier work levels with more advanced and specific job simulations. There could be other employment issues or barriers to recovery that may need to be addressed.

Individuals may also receive behavioral health services to support return to work. This program is 2-8 hours per day, 3-5 days per week.

PATIENT TESTIMONIALS

What our patients have to say

"When I arrived at RIW I was physically, mentally exhausted and weak. I had stopped using my arm and living my active life. While working the program I developed a healthier thought process and regained flexibility and strength. The encouragement and support I received every day helped me to push thru. I became stronger than I had been in years. The virtual follow up care helped me transition to the home program. There are no words to express my gratitude to the RIW team. I recommend RIW because their priority was my wellbeing and recovery."

"After two years of countless therapy and doctor appointments, I was getting nowhere. At a certain point I felt hopeless, contemplating ending my own life. Feeling isolated and alone, RIW became an option. At first I didn't think it would help me but after a few days I realized that RIW was telling me what I could do vs. what I can't. They helped me understand my anger, they listened to me, my goals, my aspirations, and they tailored my program to my specific interests. RIW was my saving grace. It was no easy task and took lots of hard work but in the end it was all worth the pain. Your injury isn't your identity. You will overcome your fears and will conquer your injuries."

"Kudos to Rehabilitation Institute of Washington (RIW) as a multidisciplinary team and system that stands by its core values and mission...I loved that all staff went up and beyond to help and advocate for a patient like me. I have been a firm believer in the Structured Intensive Multidisciplinary Program (SIMP) since day 1 and all staff were able to deliver the true substance and its goal for every patient I'm still working on my physcial injury and trust issues related to workplace violence, but all the staff made me feel that human kindness still exists, and their advocacy was phenomenal!
