Coordinated care

The physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians at RIW provide expert consultations, working closely with attending physicians to support the highest quality care for each patient.

Consultation Process

RIW physicians begin by ensuring that each individual has received a thorough diagnostic workup and that no underlying or undiagnosed medical conditions have been missed.

This process includes a detailed review of medical records, a comprehensive patient history, and a full physical examination. If necessary, additional diagnostic studies may be ordered to gain further insight. The primary goal is to identify physical, psychological, social, and systemic barriers that may be contributing to delayed recovery.

Based on these findings, RIW physicians develop a tailored treatment plan, recommending the appropriate type and intensity of care needed. Whenever possible, they suggest treatment options that can be delivered in the patient’s home community, promoting accessible and effective recovery.

Common limiting factors to treatment include:

  • A prolonged or ineffective search for the true source of pain, which can delay appropriate intervention.
  • Treatment plans that are either inadequately targeted or overly passive, failing to fully engage the patient in recovery.
  • Excessive reliance on medications or interventional procedures without addressing root causes.
  • Unrecognized psychological or emotional challenges that may interfere with healing.
  • Negative environmental or social factors that discourage motivation and resilience.

PATIENT TESTIMONIALS

What our patients have to say

"I enjoyed my time and experience at RIW. It really taught me a lot. I learned a lot about my injury that I didn't know. My family also learned a lot about me and things to help me cope with my physical health and emotional change from this injury. Being here made me understand that they can help and not to be afraid to ask for help. And also, be open and honest about your worry, pain, and emotion because they will help with them all."

"RIW gave me hope to strive and to understand my brain, how it works, how it heals, also helped me with neck pain. The OT was great, helped me feel I was back on a job. In PT helped me balance, helped pain in neck. In the groups were very educational. Good feedback, reflect on it, then take what you need and apply to every day usage. Practice, practice. I believe this rehabilitation is the way to go. RIW got me motivated to live life once more. I came here not knowing about my head, brain injury, and neck injury. RIW team of doctors and staff gave me hope again. This place has given me life. I like to say thank to all the team and crew at RIW."

The wholistic approach to care is what everyone should have after injuries to speed up the process of recovery! Thank you all for your care."
