Our Outcomes
Pain Management Program (PMP) Outcomes Summary for years 2008-2010
Persons served in the Pain Management Program improved on all measures over the three-year analysis.
- Improvements in reported pain, pain worry, fear avoidance beliefs, depression, self-reported function and objective measures of function.
- Reduced use of opiates, sedatives, alcohol and tobacco.
They also reported using coping strategies, which made them more active and independent by the end of the program.
- Decreased use of guarding, rest breaks, and having to ask for assistance.
- Increased use of relaxation techniques, task persistence, exercise, positive coping self-statements, and social support.
This graph shows the number of persons served who were objectively measured as employable.
On average across the three years:
- 32% of persons served were found employable at their job-of-injury.
- 38% were employable using their transferable work skills.
- 28% can be employable after retraining.
As expected in a weak economy, return to work was not immediate after completing treatment for many patients, but most had returned to work by the one year follow-up.
This graph shows the number of persons served who did return-to-work after completing treatment in the Pain Management Program.
Patients tended to be highly satisfied with treatment and the quality of life changes they accomplished through the program.
